Curtis Boriack has supported Upbring for decades—and he’ll tell you why without hesitation.
For Curtis, caring for God’s children and giving to others is an enduring family tradition rooted in love and faith.
His great-grandfather helped found Zion Lutheran Church of Walburg after immigrating to Texas from Germany. By the mid twentieth century, his family became supporters of Upbring.
In the late 1970s, Curtis founded Curtis Steel Company and began supporting Upbring’s Houston golf tournaments. His support helped make it a major fundraiser for children across Texas.
Curtis has played in every Upbring golf tournament for 50 years and he’ll tee up again this year as Curtis Steel marks its own 50th anniversary. The company has donated to Upbring for decades, alongside the generosity of Curtis, his late wife Gloria, and their sons.
Curtis knows the moving experience of seeing Upbring’s work in action.
One visit stands out: years ago, he and Gloria toured one of our Residential Treatment Centers, where girls ages 11-17 receive safe, structured support to heal and thrive.
One child from that visit has never left Curtis’ memory. She was energetic and animated, showing Curtis and Gloria her room. As they left that day, Curtis was touched by her request: “Will you pray for me?” Curtis and Gloria prayed with her then and there. He has never forgotten her.
For 50 years, the Boriack family has woven generosity into the fabric of their business, and their whole team feels that pride. It shows in moments like company-wide gatherings to present donations—making giving a cornerstone of their culture.
For Curtis, Upbring’s mission keeps him close—our work is local, rooted in Christian witness and service. He wants his sons and employees to know: business success brings a responsibility to share those blessings. The Boriacks back their message of faith with actions that reach generations of children.
Curtis and Gloria’s giving will endure. They raised their sons and grandchildren to follow in their footsteps, established a family trust, and joined our Legacy of Hope planned giving society.
