Low birth weight; Hearing lost; Hydrocephalus; Gastroesophageal reflux disease; Delay in the neuro-psychical development

Ethan is a cheerful 6-year-old boy who lives in an orphanage in Eastern Europe. He cannot walk yet but he sits, crawls, and is showing progress in his motor skill development. Ethan has flat feet and was recommended to wear orthopedic shoes. He can stand up on his own and can move short distances when placed in a walker.

Mentally, Ethan is well developed for his age. He is a warm and curious little boy who loves to play with balls. He plays well with the other children and is charming to his caregivers.

Ethan is receiving support from specialists for his physical needs. His hydrocephalus is non-progressive, stationary and has no need for a valve.

He has a good emotional tone with adults he’s familiar with. He enjoys playing hide and seek and he eats and sleeps well.

After adoption, Ethan will need to continue to work with a psychologist as well as continuing the physiotherapy procedures to overcome the hypotension of the musculature, which is the main cause of the delay in motoric development.
