Cerebral palsy; Developmental delay; moderate mental disability
Teddy is a strong and curious 3-year-old who is currently living in a foster home in Eastern Europe. While he is experiencing a delay in his motor skills, he can walk on his own, stand firm on his feet and is confident in his abilities to run. Teddy doesn’t speak yet but he is very curious of the world around him. He often reaches up and stretches for toys that catch his eye and is fond of affection and hugs from adults.
He is currently working with a speech therapist, a pedagogue, and a psychiatrist and is taking a medicine for behavioral disorders called Kindinorm. Teddy has been diagnosed with a moderate form of spastic quadriparesis and a moderate mental disability. He has bravely undergone surgery to alleviate his strabismus, and has also had an electrocardiogram, which came back normal.
Teddy’s curiosity extends well into his appetite, and he has built a fondness for pureed foods and a variety of fruits and vegetables. He also loves cookies and will reach for them whenever they are near. At bedtime, he falls asleep rather quickly despite taking several naps throughout the day. Teddy will do very well in a caring and nurturing environment.
