May is National Foster Care Month. In celebration, Upbring is sharing the story of the Whites.

Sometimes life gives unexpected gifts. For the White family, that gift was Bentley.

Garrett and Sarah White are very active in their church community and have created friendships with several licensed foster couples. After learning about the great need for foster parents in central Texas, the two jumped at the idea to step in and help.

The Whites reached out to Upbring Foster In Texas (FIT) to get started. Soon after, the couple and their two children, Abbie and Jackson, welcomed a sibling group of three between the ages of nine months and five years old into their home.

With a firm foundation in faith and fully honoring reunification, the Whites often included the children’s biological parents in their lives by inviting them to their church. Eventually, the children reunited with their biological parents. Because the Whites had established such a lasting relationship, they remain in contact and even babysit the children from time to time. After their great first experience fostering, the Whites remained open to providing a healing, loving home to any child in need. Not long after, their lives changed when they were introduced to a teenager who would later become their son.

The Whites first met Bentley at church when he was living with another foster family who was not able to adopt him. The connection between Bentley and the Whites was undeniably strong and on March 4, 2020, all of their dreams came true and Bentley was officially adopted by the Whites.

Upbring’s compassionate staff walk alongside children and families through every step in the foster process to bring hope and joy into every home. Today there are currently more than 430,000 children in foster care across the United States with nearly 33,000 children in foster care in the state of Texas alone. Loving and compassionate foster parents are needed in Texas, especially during these challenging times. If you feel the call to foster or adopt, please take a minute to fill out our Foster Inquiry Form so that we can connect you with a FIT representative who will give you additional information and answer any questions you may have.

Keep up with what's happening in your community.
